Our mission

Health should not depend on income

According to the CDC, preventable hospitalizations rise as income falls — health status tracks education and earnings. We believe that's a problem worth solving, and we start where it matters most: the brain.

Brain health and the ability to learn and retain information are directly related to nutrition intake and exposure to chemicals. Non-organic food carries lower nutrients and higher pesticide load, feeding a negative cycle of poor health, poverty, and low education. We're here to stop that cycle.

How we do it

Two areas, one outcome

We focus on what families can act on today — affordable nutrition and empowering skills.

Nutritious, affordable food

Organic food is expensive — but home gardens make healthy eating affordable even for low-income families. We create community garden centers where people learn organic gardening, food canning and storage, and healthy meal prep, saving hundreds of dollars a month.

Empowering skills through coaching

We go into the community to teach individuals and families about optimum brain health, nutrition science, and healthy living practices — through encouraging, compassionate coaching that builds independence, not dependence.

Our values

What guides every decision

Truth over marketing

We help people see past advertisers who convince us we "need" things that harm our health.

Dignity & access

Everyone deserves the opportunity for self-improvement, regardless of income or education.

Lasting change

We measure success by habits that endure — not quick fixes that fade.

Non-discrimination

A welcoming community for everyone

MHAWA welcomes and serves all people without regard to race, color, national origin, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, marital status, or military/veteran status.

If you experience or witness conduct that conflicts with this commitment, you may report it confidentially — including anonymously — through our contact page. We respond to every report within five business days.
