WHO ARE WE?
The command and control center for the entire human body is located within the brain. In addition to creating thought, reasoning, learning, solving problems, and storing memories; it is responsible for emotions, moods, & monitoring the functions of all organ systems. Healthy minds are limitless in their potential for innovative invention and awe-inspiring creativity. A healthy mind leads to a healthy body and optimal well being. Optimal well being leads to improved quality of life, better careers, and higher wages.
In the U.S., the people who live with the lowest levels of health, also tend to have the lowest levels of education and lowest levels of income. Our health status should not be determined by our income and education, but it is. Low income and low levels of education are associated with poor health.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) there exists a correlation between income levels and health status. The rates of preventable hospitalizations increase as income decreases. They also report a correlation between education levels and health status. Those who did not complete high school experience fewer healthy days than those who did complete high school, have some college, and graduate from college. “Chronic diseases from poor lifestyle choices are at the heart of our nation’s health care crisis and comprise approximately 75% of our health care dollars”. These high healthcare costs are straining individuals, families, governments, and companies around the world. THIS IS THE HEALTH CRISIS!
How do we change this problem and begin working towards the solution? We start with the brain. Give people a real chance, an opportunity for self improvement. Not a self-help book, but actual improved health and brain function. By showing and teaching people how to improve their brain capacity for learning and memory leading to higher educations, improved careers, higher pay and increased capacity for living an optimal quality of life.
Brain health and the ability to learn and retain information is directly related to nutrition intake and exposure to chemicals.
Non-organic food contains lower levels of nutrients than does organic food. Non-organic food contains higher levels of pesticide chemicals and toxins, increasing the likelihood of DNA damage.
This DNA damage creates a negative cycle of low learning ability and memory function. This low level of nutrients received from eating non-organic food, fails to provide adequate nutrition, further damaging the brain, and intensifying the negative, downward, repeating cycle of poverty, low education levels, and poor health.
We are stopping this negative, downward, repeating cycle of poor health, poverty, and low levels of education.
How? By focusing on two main areas:
Providing nutritious affordable food. And, teaching empowering skills through encouraging and compassionate coaching.
Organic food is expensive. Home gardens save families money, and make healthy eating affordable even for low income families. When we provide an opportunity for education, to teach people how to gain access to low cost, high quality nutrients from home grown organic food, we can actually improve the brain, and give people a real chance to improve their health, cognitive function, ability to learn and retain information, leading to increased levels of education, improved job opportunities, higher wages, and optimum health. We really DO make a difference in the lives of people who live in our community.
We create community garden centers giving people an opportunity to learn organic gardening, food canning/storage and healthy meal prep. We show people how to grow their own organic food, saving families hundreds of dollars on their monthly grocery shopping and food bill.
We also go out into the community to teach individuals and families about optimum brain health, nutrition science, and healthy living practices.
We are here to bridge the gap between the healthy and unhealthy; to make a difference; to educate, encourage, and empower individuals to take control of their own lives, their health, and their future; to implement lasting, healthy nutrition, and lifestyle behaviors. It is our desire to change the health of the world, one person at a time.
We have the accumulated knowledge and experience of 118 years from many areas of health & behavioral science; including nutrition/dietetics, physical activity, medical health, diabetic care, healthy weight loss, hypertension, physiology, biomechanics, public health promotion, smoking cessation, metabolic/endocrine, sports/fitness, stress management, gastrointestinal, oncology, cardiology, neurology, pre-marital/marital facilitation, and mental health promotion – for all ages from pediatric to geriatric care.

We are pleased to announce the release of our newest Destination Wellness educational video entitled, "Protein - Part 2 ". Part 2 continues looking at protein in greater detail. Protein synthesis is defined. The importance of protein and how it relates to human health is discussed.
